Shinde
Okavango Delta Luxury Camp
The historic Shinde Camp is located on a palm-fringed island on the edge of the permanently flowing Shinde Lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta. The camp lies within a private concession, where activities such as night drives and guided bush walks are possible. Characteristic wildlife of the area includes sitatunga and leopard. Guests can explore the waterways by motorboat or in a traditional mokoro. Fishing is possible except during January and February, with species including tilapia and tigerfish.
Accommodation at Shinde
Shinde was one of the first camps in the Okavango Delta and was completely rebuilt in 2020, consciously incorporating elements of the former Shinde. Despite the redevelopment, the camp has retained its classic safari character. Shinde is EcoTourism certified and is fully powered by solar energy.
The camp comprises seven spacious en-suite tents and a family tent with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, accommodating up to five guests. All tents feature a generous sleeping area, indoor and outdoor showers, and either twin or double beds. Solar power, ceiling fans and standing fans are provided. Raised on wooden platforms and connected by walkways, the accommodation blends into the palm-, ebony- and mangosteen-dominated surroundings.
The central main area has been designed in the style of a multi-level treehouse. Lounges, indoor and outdoor dining areas and a fire deck are set beneath the surrounding canopy, overlooking the permanent lagoon. A swimming pool completes the main guest area. The design combines traditional safari elements with contemporary comfort while also reflecting the heritage of the original camp. Wi-Fi is available at the camp on a limited basis.
Activities and tours at Shinde
Activities at Shinde include classic game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, night drives and guided bush walks. The permanent Shinde Lagoon and surrounding waterways can be explored by mokoro or motorboat. Birdwatching and fishing are also available.
