Exclusive camp opposite of Chief's Island
Moremi Crossing is situated on the palm-fringed Ntswi Island on the Boro River in the Okavango Delta in northwestern Botswana. It lies within the private Gunn’s Concession, opposite the southern part of Chief’s Island and south of the Moremi Game Reserve. The landscape, characterised by seasonal floodplains, waterways and riverine woodlands, provides a habitat for numerous wildlife and bird species. Surrounded by palm trees and mature trees that are also home to the rare Pel’s fishing owl, the camp combines nature-oriented accommodation with a variety of land- and water-based safari activities.
Accommodation at Moremi Crossing
The camp’s history is closely linked to Gunn’s Camp, founded by Mike Gunn, which was one of Botswana’s early traditional safari camps for several decades. In the 1980s, guests travelled to the region from Maun by motorboat and light aircraft. Activities included multi-day wilderness experiences during which participants learned to pole a mokoro themselves. During this period, photographic wildlife viewing increasingly developed as an alternative to hunting. Moremi Crossing continues this tradition with a camp concept focused on nature.
The accommodation comprises 14 tented suites, one family suite and one honeymoon tent. All are set on raised wooden platforms and feature private verandas with seating and views of the floodplains. En-suite amenities also include a spacious living area, ceiling fan, tea and coffee station, and desk. One of the tented suites additionally features a romantic outdoor bathtub. The family suite consists of two interconnected sleeping areas, each with its own bathroom and outdoor shower.
The central communal area is crescent-shaped and built on stilts. Beneath a thatched roof are the open-plan dining, lounge and bar areas. Spacious wooden decks offer views of the Boro River and the surrounding plains. A fire pit set in the sand and a swimming pool complement the communal facilities. Other amenities include a safari shop, a central charging station, complimentary laundry service and Wi-Fi with limited availability.
Activities and tours at Moremi Crossing
Activities include daytime and night game drives, off-road driving and guided bush walks with experienced guides and trackers. When water levels are sufficiently high, mokoro excursions and boat safaris are available, particularly during the flood season from approximately May to September. Fishing is offered during the permitted season from March to December. An additional experience can be arranged between April and October in the form of a multi-day adventure camping stay, which must be booked in advance.
