Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge
Unique camp in the Okavango Delta
The &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is located in the heart of the Okavango Delta in northwestern Botswana, directly beside a waterway within a private wildlife concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The approximately 22,500-hectare concession provides a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including the Big Five. The landscape is characterized by seasonal floodplains, waterways, papyrus-lined banks and wooded islands. Its secluded location offers excellent opportunities for observing nature on guided game drives and walks through the reserve.
Accommodation at Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge
The lodge’s distinctive architecture draws inspiration from its natural surroundings. The main building, with its curved, scale-like wooden cladding, resembles a resting pangolin, while the elevated guest suites are modelled on the nests of weaver birds. Wood, warm copper tones and expansive glass surfaces define the design. The communal areas are nestled beneath the leafy canopies of indigenous trees and open onto the surrounding landscape. A spacious wooden deck extends from the central dining area into the outdoors. An elevated walkway leads to the bar and lounge, which feature a viewing area overlooking the surroundings. Several terraces descend towards the forest floor, where a traditional open-air fire pit is also located.
Sandibe offers accommodation in twelve elegant suites nestled among wild palms and gnarled fig trees, including a family suite comprising two separate living units connected by a covered, enclosed passageway. Each suite measures approximately 100 m² and features an open-plan living area, a bathroom, a walk-in dressing room, a private minibar and a fireplace. Large sliding doors open onto a multi-level deck with a seating area, daybed, outdoor shower and private plunge pool. The elevated design provides views of the Santantadibe Channel and the adjacent reed beds.
Activities and tours at Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge
Responsible resource management is an important part of the lodge’s concept. Guided tours give guests insights into its energy supply and other measures aimed at reducing its environmental footprint. Safari activities include guided game drives during the day and after dark, guided walks and birdwatching. Specially equipped safari vehicles accommodate a maximum of six guests, making them particularly suitable for wildlife photography. Scenic helicopter flights over the delta are also available.
Additional facilities include an interactive kitchen where guests can prepare their own pizzas or burgers under the guidance of the chefs, a fitness room, a massage room offering wellness treatments, and a small shop selling selected local crafts and clothing from Botswana. Children are welcome, and a dedicated children’s programme offers age-appropriate activities.
