Little Vumbura
Exclusive camp in the northern Okavango Delta
Little Vumbura is situated on a small, forested island in the northern Okavango Delta in Botswana, within a private 60,000-hectare wilderness concession. The landscape is characterised by permanent waterways, seasonal floodplains and vegetated islands that provide habitats for a wide variety of wildlife. The camp is nestled in this largely untouched riverine environment and is surrounded by water. Access is by boat, allowing guests to experience the Delta’s waterways and wildlife on the way to the camp. Its location offers opportunities for both land-based exploration and a range of water activities.
Accommodation at Little Vumbura
The camp offers six comfortable tented suites set beneath the canopy of an old-growth forest. Raised wooden platforms blend into the natural surroundings and provide views of the surrounding floodplains. Each suite has a private bathroom and a terrace. The interiors feature subtle natural tones complemented by indigo-blue accents. The open design connects indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing guests to experience the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness.
The communal areas include a restaurant, a lounge and shaded seating areas, as well as a swimming pool overlooking the floodplains. A deck near the dining area provides an ideal spot for stargazing. Wi-Fi and a small shop selling locally crafted products are also available. The camp’s intimate size makes it suitable for families and small groups wishing to book all six tented suites exclusively.
The cuisine focuses on seasonal regional ingredients and collaboration with local producers. Ingredients include ditloo, a local legume, as well as marula fruit and various nuts. Through the Okavango Community Trust, Wilderness also supports engagement with local communities. Its initiatives focus on knowledge sharing, education and improving local livelihoods, alongside the protection of the Okavango Delta’s fragile ecosystem.
Activities and tours at Little Vumbura
Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, during which guests may encounter elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards and red lechwe. African wild dogs are also found in the area. Other activities include excursions in traditional dugout canoes known as mokoros and motorised boat trips through the channels. Guided walks on the surrounding islands, birdwatching and catch-and-release fishing are also available. Helicopter flights over the Delta may be offered, depending on conditions and availability.
