Luxury camp at the Xakanaxa Lagoon
Okuti Camp is located in the northern part of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, directly on the permanently flowing Maunachira River, which runs through Xakanaxa Lagoon. Okuti has been part of Ker & Downey Botswana since 1998 and has therefore been established in the Xakanaxa area of the Moremi Game Reserve for many years. Its setting along the permanent Maunachira River, together with the diverse landscape of lagoons, waterways and dry land, defines the character of the camp and provides ideal conditions for varied safari experiences both on land and on the water.
Accommodation at Okuti
A distinctive feature of Okuti is its seven so-called “Masasas”, whose curved architecture is reminiscent of traditional reed houses. Five spacious units are designed as double or twin accommodation, while two Masasas each feature two bedrooms and are particularly suitable for families. The elevated accommodation units are connected to the communal areas by wooden walkways and overlook the permanently flowing Maunachira channel. Each unit has a private bathroom as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The family Masasas feature spacious shared bathrooms. The camp welcomes guests aged seven and above.
The central area of Okuti is also elevated above the surrounding terrain and includes lounge and dining areas as well as an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. A swimming pool with a sun deck and a firepit complement the communal facilities. Limited Wi-Fi is available at the camp. The wooden walkways are designed to provide wheelchair access to the camp’s main areas.
Activities and tours at Okuti
Activities include game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles through the Moremi Game Reserve, generally taking place in the morning and afternoon. Full-day game drives with a picnic can also be arranged on request. The water-rich surroundings of the camp can be explored on motorboat excursions along the Maunachira River and the adjoining lagoons and channels. Mokoro excursions are also available. The numerous waterways and lagoons make the area particularly appealing to birdwatchers, with herons and storks among the species that can be observed, especially during the breeding season. For guests wishing to spend more time in the bush, half- or full-day excursions with a picnic can be arranged.
