Luxury camp in the Moremi Game Reserve
Camp Xakanaxa is a luxury lodge in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve. The lodge is set in a small woodland directly on the banks of the Khwai River at Xakanaxa Lagoon. Camp Xakanaxa is one of the more traditional safari camps in the Moremi area. According to historical records, a crocodile hunting camp was established here as early as the 1960s, followed later by a simple fishing camp. In 2013, the camp was taken over by Desert & Delta Safaris and incorporated into its existing portfolio.
Accommodation at Camp Xakanaxa
The camp offers eleven spacious safari tents in the classic Meru style, as well as a family tent with two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The tents are set on elevated wooden platforms along the edge of the lagoon and each has a private viewing deck with seating or lounging areas. Facilities include private bathrooms, fans, a safe, hairdryer, lighting, power outlets and tea and coffee-making facilities.
The main building, constructed from wood, reed and thatch, houses a lounge and dining area, a small library and spacious outdoor decks. There is also a large swimming pool with an elevated sun deck and a small plunge pool on the riverside deck. Two fire decks extend over the Khwai River and provide a relaxing area in the evenings. A self-service bar, curio shop and daily laundry service complete the facilities.
Activities and tours at Camp Xakanaxa
The area surrounding the camp features permanent waterways, riverine woodland, open savannah, seasonal floodplains and numerous channels, allowing guests to enjoy both land- and water-based safaris throughout the year. Morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles explore the Moremi Game Reserve, while motorboat safaris venture into the deeper channels and lagoons. The region offers particularly excellent opportunities for birdwatching during the southern spring and summer months.
