Tented camp in the Khwai concession
Machaba Camp is located on the northeastern edge of the Okavango Delta in the Khwai Concession, a 180,000-hectare wildlife area bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. Set on slightly elevated ground beneath mature riverine trees, the camp overlooks the seasonal floodplains that attract an abundance of wildlife throughout the year. This remarkable region forms the transition between the drier woodlands of Khwai and the permanent waterways of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned as one of the world's most extraordinary inland wetlands.
Accommodation at Machaba Camp
Machaba Camp is designed in the charming style of a classic 1950s safari camp, combining nostalgic elegance with modern comfort. The camp features ten spacious luxury tents, including eight twin or double tents and two family tents accommodating up to four guests. Each tent is raised on a wooden deck and includes an en-suite bathroom with a shower, double vanity and flush toilet. Comfortable beds and a private veranda provide a relaxing retreat in the heart of the African wilderness. In total, the camp can accommodate up to 24 guests.
The main area of Machaba Camp consists of a covered lounge featuring a comfortable sitting area with a small library, a dining area, a bar and several viewing decks overlooking the surrounding floodplains, where wildlife can often be seen. A small swimming pool offers welcome refreshment during the warmer hours of the day, while the campfire and communal seating areas enhance the authentic safari atmosphere.
Activities and tours at Machaba Camp
Depending on the season, the surrounding landscape alternates between open grasslands, lagoons, islands and winding waterways, creating ideal habitats for elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos and predators such as lions, leopards and African wild dogs. Guests can enjoy a variety of safari activities, including morning and afternoon game drives, guided walking safaris and traditional mokoro excursions, subject to water levels. Birdwatching, cultural visits to the local community and unforgettable stargazing beneath Botswana's clear night skies complete the safari experience.
