Exclusive tented camp in the Khwai concession
Little Machaba is a small, exclusive safari camp operated by Machaba Safaris in the wildlife-rich Khwai region on the northeastern edge of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Situated on the same island as the larger Machaba Camp, it is nestled beneath shady riverine trees on raised wooden decks overlooking the seasonal floodplains. The Khwai Concession borders the Moremi Game Reserve and is considered one of the most wildlife-rich regions in the country.
Accommodation at Little Machaba
With a maximum capacity of just eight guests, Little Machaba offers an intimate and highly personalised safari experience. The camp features two luxurious tented suites and two family tents, all built on raised platforms and connected to the main area by wooden walkways. The spacious safari tents combine the nostalgic charm of classic African expeditions with modern comforts. Each accommodation includes a comfortable bedroom, an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, fans, power outlets, and a private veranda. A particular highlight is the secluded outdoor shower and freestanding bathtub under the open sky, allowing guests to enjoy uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness.
The camp’s central guest area is housed in a spacious, covered tent that serves as the social heart of the camp. It features a comfortable lounge, bar and dining area, while a traditional campfire and inviting seating areas provide the perfect setting for sharing the day’s safari experiences. Additional facilities include a small swimming pool, a library with books on Botswana’s wildlife and culture, a curio shop, and an in-room spa service. Limited Wi-Fi is available in the guest tents.
Activities and tours at Little Machaba
The Khwai Concession is renowned for its exceptional wildlife, making it one of the camp’s greatest attractions. Guests can look forward to encounters with elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, giraffes and an impressive variety of birdlife. Morning and afternoon game drives provide outstanding opportunities for wildlife viewing. Additional activities include guided bush walks, mokoro excursions in traditional dugout canoes (subject to seasonal water levels), birdwatching, and cultural visits to the local Khwai community. With only a small number of guests, safari activities can be tailored to individual interests, creating an authentic and exclusive wilderness experience in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
