Tented camp in the Chobe National Park
Chobe Under Canvas is located in the northern part of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, close to the Chobe River. The mobile camp is set up at exclusive, changing sites within the national park, allowing guests to experience the wilderness at close quarters. Animal tracks run between the tents, while the surrounding landscape is characterised by the floodplains, woodlands and savannahs typical of northern Chobe. The region is particularly renowned for its exceptionally large elephant herds and diverse wildlife and birdlife.
Accommodation at Chobe Under Canvas
The camp consists of five spacious safari tents accommodating a maximum of ten guests. Each tent features either a double bed or two twin beds, a private bathroom with a separate flush toilet, and a bucket shower, with hot water provided on request. The tents are deliberately designed to have minimal impact on their surroundings and are equipped with solar lamps. There is no electricity supply in the camp, although 12-volt charging facilities and USB ports are available on the safari vehicles. The tents are unfenced, so guests are required to move around the camp only when accompanied, particularly after dark.
The open communal tents provide a welcoming meeting place for meals, drinks and relaxing between safari activities. Meals are freshly prepared and cooked over an open fire. Dining takes place beneath the canvas or outdoors around the campfire. A well-stocked bar is also part of the communal area.
Activities and tours at Chobe Under Canvas
The absence of permanent infrastructure is part of the camp's environmentally conscious approach and is designed to minimise its impact on the national park. At the same time, the camp's small scale and changing locations provide an exceptionally close connection with nature. The safari programme includes twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. Guests can also enjoy a photography-focused boat safari on the Chobe River aboard the Pangolin Voyager, a boat specially designed for wildlife and nature photography, with swivel seats and camera mounts. This half-day experience is included for guests staying two nights or more. Other activities include birdwatching and guided stargazing.
