Lodge in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
The Rooiputs Lodge is located in the Botswana section of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, approximately 25 km north of the Two Rivers/Twee Rivieren border post. The private concession is situated slightly away from the Nossob Valley on a mature red sand dune and offers direct views of a waterhole. The landscape is characterised by red Kalahari dunes, dry riverbeds, acacia savannah and open grasslands. The Nossob and Auob Rivers rarely carry surface water, but their fossil riverbeds provide important habitats for wildlife.
Accommodation at Rooiputs
Rooiputs has a total of eleven accommodation units: nine chalets, one family unit and one Desert Suite. The thatched chalets are individually positioned on raised wooden platforms and feature a sleeping area with double or twin beds, a small seating area, a private bathroom with two washbasins, toilet and outdoor shower, as well as a large private veranda. The Desert Suite additionally features an outdoor bathtub.
The central, open-plan main area is located beneath a thatched roof on a raised wooden deck. It includes a lounge, bar, dining area and reading corner. A boma is available for campfires and traditional meals, while a small swimming pool provides an additional place to relax. The lodge also has a small museum.
Activities and tours at Rooiputs
Around 60 mammal species have been recorded in the park, including oryx, springbok, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest and eland. The region is particularly known for its predators, including black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetahs, leopards, brown and spotted hyenas, jackals, caracals and African wild cats. Self-drive visitors can explore the park's main gravel roads along the riverbeds. A private concession area around Rooiputs allows for exclusive game drives and sundowner drives in the Nossob Valley as well as in the Nossob or Auob river valleys. Appropriate camp equipment is available for observing the Kalahari night sky.
