Lebala Camp
Camp in the south of the Kwando concession
Lebala Camp is a luxurious camp beautifully situated on the floodplains of the Linyanti Swamps. The approximately 232,000-hectare concession lies along an important elephant migration route and encompasses a diverse landscape of open grasslands, seasonal floodplains, wetlands and woodland islands dominated by leadwood trees. The name Lebala means “wide open plain” in Setswana and aptly describes the landscape surrounding the camp. Lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs and, in particular, African wild dogs are regularly sighted in the region.
Accommodation at Lebala Camp
The camp consists of eight individually designed tented suites and one family suite. All accommodations are set on elevated wooden platforms and feature a private veranda with a seating area and views of the surrounding landscape. The specially designed mesh walls provide unobstructed views and natural ventilation. Facilities include a sleeping and living area with armchairs, ceiling fan, tea and coffee station, and desk. The bathrooms feature a freestanding bathtub as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The family suite consists of a regular en-suite tent connected to a smaller adjoining tent.
The camp’s central area is elevated on stilts above the seasonal wetlands of the Kwando system and includes an open dining area, lounge and bar beneath a thatched roof, as well as a firepit. An elevated viewing platform overlooks the swamp and Lebala Channel. Additional facilities include a swimming pool, a small safari shop, laundry service and limited Wi-Fi access. The camp is powered by solar energy, with generators available as a backup.
Activities and tours at Lebala Camp
One of the main advantages of the camp’s location within a private concession is the flexibility it offers for wildlife viewing. In addition to traditional game drives, activities include off-road game drives, night drives and guided nature walks. Guides and trackers work together, allowing vehicles to leave established tracks when conditions permit. Private guides and vehicles as well as scenic flights can also be arranged as individual additions. Lebala Camp is approximately a 20-minute drive from its own airstrip; flights from Maun or Kasane take around 45 minutes. Lebala can also be combined with Lagoon Camp by complimentary road transfer.
