Kings Pool Camp
Luxury camp in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve
King’s Pool Camp is located in the remote Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in northern Botswana, directly on the crescent-shaped King’s Pool Lagoon within the Linyanti river system. The private reserve borders Chobe National Park and forms part of the largely unfenced Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Its position along an important wildlife corridor between Botswana, Namibia, Angola and Zambia makes the region particularly significant for elephants. During the dry season, large elephant herds, buffalo and various predators congregate around the permanent waterways. Lions, leopards and African wild dogs are also characteristic of the Linyanti region.
Accommodation at King’s Pool Camp
The name King’s Pool is derived from Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf, who spent his honeymoon here with Queen Silvia. The camp is situated beneath Jackalberry trees directly beside the lagoon and underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2019. The property offers eight luxurious suites built on elevated wooden decks, including one unit specifically designed for families. The suites feature a spacious bedroom and living area, a private bathroom, a private veranda and a personal plunge pool. The elevated construction provides uninterrupted views of the lagoon while allowing wildlife to move freely through the area.
The main camp building features lounge, bar and dining areas as well as a library. The camp also has a swimming pool, safari boutique and Wi-Fi. Massages are available at the camp. A special feature is the hide located directly beside the water, which allows guests to observe wildlife at eye level. An additional sunken hide is also available and is particularly suitable for elephant viewing.
The camp’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its use of solar power, a greywater treatment system and sustainable building materials. The camp’s small scale and elevated walkways help minimise its impact on the sensitive environment. Wilderness also supports conservation projects in the Linyanti, including initiatives focused on protecting elephants and predators.
Activities and tours at King’s Pool Camp
The Queen Silvia, a specially designed barge for King’s Pool, offers boat trips, sundowners and other water-based activities, depending on water levels. Seasonal catch-and-release fishing is also available. Activities include daytime and night-time game drives as well as guided walks. Private safari vehicles can be arranged for families.
