Thamalakane River Lodge
Lodge between Maun and Moremi
Thamalakane River Lodge is situated on the banks of the Thamalakane River in the Sexaxa area, approximately 19 km north of Maun on the road to the Moremi Game Reserve. From the turn-off on Shorobe Road, it is another 700 m to the lodge. The drive from Maun Airport takes around 20 minutes. The lodge is set within established riverine woodland with mature trees, reed-lined riverbanks and numerous waterbirds, while the communal areas and accommodation offer extensive views of the river. This combines easy access to Maun with a natural setting on the edge of the Okavango region.
Accommodation at Thamalakane River Lodge
The accommodation comprises 32 Babbler Chalets and two Kingfisher Family Units. The Babbler Chalets are designed for two adults and feature king-size or twin beds, a private bathroom with shower, ceiling fan, mosquito net, tea and coffee-making facilities, and an open veranda. A distinctive architectural feature is the translucent, well-ventilated wall construction, which keeps the interiors bright and airy even without air conditioning. Eight of the chalets have sleeper sofas for one or two children up to the age of twelve. Each of the two Kingfisher units consists of two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, a small living area and a terrace overlooking the river. Wi-Fi is available.
The restaurant is located in an extensive timber-and-thatch building and forms the centre of the lodge. Guests can dine indoors or on the spacious terraces overlooking the Thamalakane River, with à la carte dishes and plated menus available. The dining facilities are complemented by a bar and a separate air-conditioned gin lounge. A shaded riverside terrace provides a pleasant setting for meals and drinks at sunset. The landscaped grounds also feature a double swimming pool overlooking the river, while additional facilities include a small shop and a spa offering massages as well as manicures and pedicures.
Activities and tours at Thamalakane River Lodge
