In the heart of the Okavango Delta, on a forested island overlooking the seasonal floodplains, lies Xaoo Safari Camp – a small, stylish retreat created by The Pack. The camp offers tranquillity, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and authentic insights into the local culture. It can be reached in about 45 minutes by road transfer from Maun (included in the rate) or via scenic helicopter flight.
Accommodation at Xaoo Safari Camp
The camp features six spacious, safari-style tented chalets, each furnished with a super-king-size bed or twin beds, plus a sleeper sofa – ideal for families or small groups. Every chalet has its own bathroom with a bathtub and an atmospheric open-air shower under the sky. Mosquito nets, charging stations, and generous spacing between units ensure both comfort and privacy. Children are welcome; sofa beds are provided for them, and private activities are arranged for those under 12. At the heart of the camp, the open-plan main area with lounge, dining space, and swimming pool offers sweeping views over the floodplains – an unforgettable sight, especially at sunset.
Xaoo Safari Camp places great emphasis on sustainability and community involvement. The camp runs entirely on solar power, employs local staff, supports the traditional mokoro poler community, and contributes to educational and environmental projects in neighbouring villages.
Activities and Excursions at Xaoo Safari Camp
The fully inclusive rate covers two guided activities per day: traditional mokoro excursions through winding waterways with skilled Wayei guides, guided bush walks, game drives in the private concession, and cultural visits to a nearby village. Optional extras include scenic helicopter flights and overnight stays out in the wilderness. Game drives en route to the mokoro launch point often reveal antelope, elephants, hippos, and a rich variety of birdlife. The mokoro trips themselves offer an especially peaceful and intimate connection with the natural surroundings.
