Mbamba

Luxury camp in the wild north of the Okavango Delta

In the remote north of the Okavango Delta—where vast floodplains meet palm-dotted islands and winding papyrus channels—Mbamba Camp opened its doors in April 2025. “Mbamba,” a warm greeting in the Bukakhwe-San dialect, captures the welcoming and heartfelt spirit of this unique safari camp. A joint venture between Natural Selection and Uncharted Africa, Mbamba is located in the private NG12 concession, nestled between Duba Plains, Vumbura, and the legendary Moremi Game Reserve.

Accommodation at Mbamba

Set beneath ancient leadwood trees, Mbamba’s air-conditioned canvas tents—comprising four doubles, six twins, and two spacious family units—offer an elegant blend of space, comfort, and authenticity. Each tent features comfortable beds, a private terrace, and a well-appointed en-suite bathroom. Indoor and outdoor showers offer guests a close-to-nature experience without compromising on luxury. Raised on wooden platforms, the tents provide natural ventilation and uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness. The open-plan main area includes a lounge, library, bar, and swimming pool—all designed to foster relaxation and connection with nature. In the evenings, guests gather around the firepit or share dinner at the long communal table, accompanied by fine cuisine, engaging conversations, and the nocturnal sounds of the bush.

Mbamba is fully solar-powered and proudly plastic-free. The camp also supports meaningful community and conservation initiatives, including the CLAWS Project, which promotes human-lion coexistence, and the Elephant Express, a safe transport system for schoolchildren, patients, and teachers along key elephant migration routes.

Activities and tours at Mbamba

Mbamba offers exceptional year-round game viewing in one of the most wildlife-rich areas of the Delta. Daily game drives—both day and night—bring guests up close to elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, sitatunga, and a variety of antelope species. The area is particularly renowned for its healthy population of African wild dogs. With a bit of luck, guests may witness a hunt or observe the fascinating social dynamics of a pack at close range. Birdwatchers will also be in their element: over 350 species have been recorded in the area, including rare and sought-after birds such as Pel’s fishing owl and various migratory waders. Depending on the water levels, traditional mokoro excursions and boat trips offer a peaceful and immersive way to explore the Delta’s winding channels.
