Expeditions Camp is located deep in the northern Okavango Delta within the private NG12 concession, a wilderness area covering approximately 90,000 hectares north of Vumbura and Duba Plains. This remote region is characterised by vast seasonal floodplains, palm-covered islands and an intricate network of waterways that provide an almost undisturbed habitat for a remarkable diversity of wildlife. With very little tourism development, the area offers an authentic safari experience in one of Botswana's most pristine natural landscapes.
Accommodation at Expeditions Camp
This intimate, seasonal camp features eight semi-permanent Meru-style tents. Built directly on the natural forest floor, the tents blend seamlessly into their surroundings while offering a comfortable stay in the wilderness. Each tent is furnished with four-poster beds and includes an en-suite bathroom with hot running water, a flush toilet and an indoor shower. A private veranda overlooks the seasonal floodplains, where wildlife can often be seen from the comfort of your tent.
At the heart of the camp is a spacious communal tent inspired by the classic safari camps of the early explorers. It houses the dining area, comfortable lounge spaces, a small library and a well-stocked bar. Meals are served either beneath the canvas or outdoors under the African sky. Evenings are typically spent around the campfire, where guests can relax to the sounds of the surrounding wilderness. Wi-Fi and charging facilities are also available in the tents.
Activities and tours at Expeditions Camp
The NG12 concession is regarded as one of the most wildlife-rich areas of the Okavango Delta. Large herds of elephants and buffalo roam the region alongside lions, leopards, cheetahs and African wild dogs. The area is also home to red lechwe, numerous antelope species and more than 350 bird species, including rarities such as the wattled crane and Pel's fishing owl.
Activities include guided game drives during the day and after dark, boat safaris through the waterways of the Okavango Delta and traditional mokoro excursions along the shallow channels. The concession is also an excellent destination for birdwatching. For an additional charge, guests can enjoy scenic helicopter flights, including excursions to the UNESCO-listed Tsodilo Hills, renowned for their remarkable ancient rock art.
