Sleep under stars in the heart of the Okavango Delta
A truly special safari experience awaits guests at Skybeds in Botswana. Deep in the private Khwai Reserve, on the edge of the Okavango Delta, these elevated sleeping platforms offer the unique opportunity to sleep under the stars – amidst the African wilderness. The Skybeds are only open from April 1 to October 31 – during the dry season, when wildlife viewing is particularly spectacular. Due to limited space, early booking is recommended.
Accommodation at Skybeds
The Skybeds consist of just three open platforms, raised approximately five meters above the ground. Each platform is equipped with a comfortable bed, a mosquito net, and a private bathroom (including a toilet and bush shower). The elevated location not only ensures safety but also spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and a nearby watering hole, regularly visited by elephants, lions, and other wildlife.
Activities and tours at Skybeds
A stay at Skybeds is all about immersive nature experiences, but some classic safari activities are also possible. Guided game drives in open vehicles, both day and night, offer excellent opportunities to observe wildlife such as elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and many other species. Since Skybeds are located in a private conservation area, night drives are also permitted – perfect for experiencing nocturnal animals in action. Another highlight is wildlife viewing directly from the nearby waterhole, which is regularly visited by wild animals – especially impressive from the well-camouflaged observation hide. Those seeking even more immersive experiences can discover the smaller wonders of the wilderness on guided bush walks: animal tracks, plants, insects, and the sounds of nature. And in the evening, when the campfire blazes and the sky opens above your bed, observing the southern starry sky without artificial light is a truly special experience.
