Traditional tent camp at the calm Khwai River
The Sango Safari Camp is located on the banks of the Khwai River in the northeastern Okavango Delta, on the edge of the traditional village of Khwai and directly bordering the famous Moremi Game Reserve. Its location between the drier areas of the Delta, seasonal floodplains, and the permanently flowing Khwai River creates an exceptionally diverse habitat. The region is renowned for its rich variety of wildlife and bird species, as animals can move freely between the Khwai concession and the Moremi area.
Accommodation at Sango Safari Camp
The camp consists of six spacious Meru-style tents, each accommodating two guests and designed in the style of classic safari camps of bygone eras. The comfortable tents feature private bathrooms, open-air showers, private verandas, fans, and safes for personal belongings. In addition, a separate accommodation unit is available for pilots and guides.
The open main area forms the social heart of the camp. It includes a dining area, lounge, bar, and a traditional firepit in the Boma area. A viewing deck and a small swimming pool complete the facilities and provide inviting spaces to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Among the shady trees surrounding the camp, guests can often observe birds and wildlife, while evenings around the campfire create an authentic bush atmosphere.
Activities and tours at Sango Safari Camp
Game drives in open safari vehicles explore the Khwai region and the Moremi Game Reserve, where guests may encounter elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and numerous antelope species. Night drives offer unique opportunities to discover the nocturnal wildlife of the African bush. On the water, traditional mokoro excursions through the channels and lagoons of the Okavango Delta provide a peaceful way to experience the landscape and birdlife at close range. In addition, visits to the nearby village of Khwai allow guests to gain insights into the daily life and culture of the local community.
