Khwai Game Lodge
Luxury camp on the Khwai Lagoon
Khwai Game Lodge is located in the Khwai Community Concession in northern Botswana, directly on the Khwai River amid the water-rich landscapes of the Okavango Delta. The river forms the natural boundary with Moremi Game Reserve. As the lodge is unfenced, elephants, hippos, buffalo and numerous other wild animals can move freely through the surrounding habitats. Particularly attractive is the lagoon in front of the lodge, which is regularly visited by animals for drinking and bathing and also provides excellent opportunities for observing the region’s diverse birdlife.
Accommodation at Khwai Game Lodge
The six luxury chalets at Khwai Game Lodge opened in June 2026. Special opening rates apply until 16 November 2026, after which the lodge will temporarily close for construction work. Two family rooms, each with two bedrooms and space for up to four guests, are planned to open in January 2027. The spacious chalets feature modern bathrooms, outdoor showers, comfortable sleeping areas, Wi-Fi and coffee and tea facilities. Elevated wooden decks offer views over the lagoon and surrounding wetlands.
The lodge also has six spacious, shaded campsites beneath fig and ebony trees. Four campsites are situated directly beside the lagoon, while two are located on the woodland side. Each site has its own fire pit, braai area and water connection. Shared showers and toilets are available for campers.
The communal areas include comfortable seating and lounge areas, as well as viewing decks overlooking the water. A campfire provides a central gathering place in the evening. The open design allows guests to remain closely connected to the surrounding wilderness between activities, with elephants and hippos sometimes visible directly from the camp.
Activities and tours at Khwai Game Lodge
After the area around Khwai Village was formally recognised as a permanent settlement in 2005 and the surrounding land was designated as a community concession, local residents gained greater responsibility for the tourism use of their natural resources. This approach combines economic opportunities for the community with the protection of the region’s rich wildlife and natural environment. An important part of the experience is the Village Tour to nearby Khwai Village, offering insights into the daily life, culture and history of the local community and highlighting the importance of community-based tourism in the Khwai Community Concession.
Safari activities include morning game drives in Moremi Game Reserve, as well as morning, afternoon and night game drives within the Khwai Concession. Other experiences include guided bush walks, Mokoro excursions and Scenic flights.
