Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat is located within a vast private concession on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, approximately 90 km northeast of Maun. Positioned between the Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai region and Chobe National Park, the retreat provides an excellent base for exploring some of Botswana's most renowned wilderness areas. The approximately 85,000-hectare concession is unfenced, allowing wildlife to roam freely throughout the area.
Accommodation at Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat
The retreat has been carefully integrated into its natural surroundings and incorporates environmentally conscious features, including solar-powered accommodation. Elevated wooden walkways connect the various areas while minimising the impact on the surrounding environment. The name "Mankwe", meaning "Mother Leopard", reflects the retreat's close connection to the region's remarkable wildlife.
Accommodation consists of ten spacious Meru-style tented suites built on raised wooden platforms beneath shady mopane trees. Each suite features a private deck overlooking the bush, a choice of one king-size bed or two twin beds, and an elegant en-suite bathroom with a double vanity and shower. Additional amenities include ceiling fans, tea and coffee-making facilities, a writing desk and a safe. Wi-Fi is available in the business lounge area.
The open-plan main area offers several inviting spaces to relax between safari activities. Two swimming pools provide welcome relief during the warmer hours of the day, while the lounge areas and bar create comfortable settings for unwinding. A particular highlight is the waterhole directly in front of the lodge, where wildlife can frequently be observed. Facilities also include a spa and a traditional boma, where guests can spend the evening around the campfire beneath Africa's spectacular star-filled sky.
Activities at Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat
Safari experiences at Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat include guided game drives within the private concession as well as full-day excursions to Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai region and the southern Chobe corridor.
