Cozy camp on the Khwai river
Camp Khwai is a charming, family-friendly tented camp set on the picturesque banks of the Khwai River, right on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve and surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Okavango Delta. Founded in 2021 by Ronnie and Tlotlo Mokotedi, the camp is just a 20-minute drive from Khwai River Airstrip, which is served by charter flights from Maun or Kasane. Alternatively, it can be reached via 4x4 vehicle along sandy tracks.
Accommodation at Camp Khwai
With only six spacious deluxe tents and one family tent (with two bedrooms for up to 5 people), the camp offers an intimate atmosphere and plenty of space for personal attention. The tents are elevated on wooden platforms and overlook the surrounding floodplains or a tranquil lagoon. Each is comfortably furnished with an en-suite bathroom, cozy beds, and a private veranda – blending the authenticity of a bush safari with modern comfort. The open central area, featuring a lounge, dining space, and swimming pool, invites guests to relax and watch wildlife. Sustainability is at the heart of Camp Khwai: electricity is provided entirely by solar power, most staff are recruited from the local community, and part of the revenue supports conservation and community projects.
Activities and Excursions at Camp Khwai
Activities include day and night game drives, guided bush walks, mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions along the Khwai River, birdwatching, and visits to the nearby village. Experienced guides take guests in search of lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of antelope and bird species.
