Thamo Telele

Safari Romance on the Edge of Maun

Just a few kilometers north of Maun, along the banks of the Thamalakane River, lies Thamo Telele – a charming safari lodge set within a 250-hectare private wildlife reserve. Arriving here means stepping out of the busy safari hub of Maun and immediately into a tranquil green oasis filled with wildlife, birdsong, and wide-open skies. With its close proximity to Maun Airport, Thamo Telele is ideal as either a relaxing starting point or a stylish end to a safari adventure through Botswana.

Accommodation at Thamo Telele

The lodge features eleven exclusive accommodations – nine spacious safari tents raised on wooden platforms, as well as two thatched honeymoon chalets. Each unit is thoughtfully designed and offers all the comforts of a luxury retreat: freestanding bathtubs, outdoor showers, private verandas, and air-conditioned interiors. The name “Thamo Telele,” Setswana for “long neck,” pays tribute to the giraffes that roam freely across the reserve – including the original namesake of the camp. At the heart of the lodge is an open-plan lounge and dining area with sweeping views of the bush. Here, guests enjoy fresh, seasonal meals, share stories of the day’s adventures, or unwind by the pool with a sundowner in hand.

Activities and tours at Thamo Telele

What sets Thamo Telele apart is its focus on personal, immersive nature experiences. Guests can explore the reserve on guided bush walks, observe wildlife up close, or venture out on sunset game drives to witness the golden African light in all its glory. A true highlight is the opportunity for gentle, interactive encounters with the resident giraffes – a memorable experience for nature lovers of all ages.

Bird enthusiasts will be in their element, with over 150 recorded species in the area, including bee-eaters, hornbills, and various raptors. Cultural excursions to nearby communities offer a deeper look into local life in Botswana. Depending on the season and availability, guests can also enjoy horseback riding, yoga sessions in the bush, or river outings along the Thamalakane near Maun.
