Nature experience on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans
The Pelican Lodge is located about four kilometers south of Nata, close to the Nata Bird Sanctuary and the eastern reaches of the Makgadikgadi Pans. Thanks to its convenient position, it is an ideal stopover for travelers heading from Francistown or Maun towards Kasane, the Okavango Delta, or Victoria Falls.
Accommodation at Pelican Lodge
The lodge features a total of 27 spacious chalets – including single chalets as well as twin and family rooms – along with a luxurious Presidential suite. All rooms come with en-suite bathrooms (some with outdoor showers), air conditioning, television, refrigerator, telephone, tea and coffee facilities, and internet access.
At the heart of the property, two restaurants ensure culinary variety: a traditional boma with an extensive buffet and an à la carte restaurant. Two bars, including a poolside cocktail bar, provide the perfect setting for relaxed evenings. The swimming pool, uniquely designed in the shape of the African continent and shaded by a thatched gazebo, is a favorite gathering place for guests.
Camping enthusiasts will also find a dedicated campsite equipped with private ablution facilities, electricity points, fire pits, braai areas, and communal kitchens – offering comfort while staying close to nature.
Activities and tours at Pelican Lodge
The surroundings of Pelican Lodge offer a wide range of activities. A highlight is a visit to the Nata Bird Sanctuary, home to an incredible variety of waterbirds, including the pelicans that inspired the lodge’s name. Guests can also enjoy guided tours of the Makgadikgadi Pans, quad bike adventures, bush picnics, traditional braais, and game drives with the chance to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and more. Cultural encounters, such as visits to a San village, as well as unforgettable sundowner excursions into the vast salt pan landscape, complete the experience.
