A rustic oasis in the Kalahari
Thakadu Bush Camp is located just a few kilometers south of Ghanzi in Botswana, offering the tranquility of the wilderness combined with a personal, family-run atmosphere. Since its establishment in the late 1990s, the camp has become known as an authentic, rustic accommodation that balances comfort with close contact to nature.
Accommodation at Thakadu Bush Camp
The accommodations include thatched chalets, classic en-suite rooms, and comfortable Meru tents. All feature private bathrooms, tea and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning or a fan, and private verandas. The offerings are complemented by a well-maintained camping area under ancient African trees, equipped with electricity, water, lighting, barbecue facilities, and shared sanitation. In total, there are around ten permanent accommodations as well as several campsites suitable for different group sizes.
The heart of the camp is the restaurant with a bar overlooking the waterhole, where wildlife frequently appears. The kitchen focuses on fresh ingredients and local products, often grown on-site. In the evenings, guests are treated to traditional barbecue evenings and an African ambience around the campfire. A swimming pool provides refreshment, while the illuminated waterhole allows for exciting wildlife observations even after sunset.
Activities and tours at Thakadu Bush Camp
Thakadu Bush Camp offers a wide range of activities. Especially impressive are guided Bushman walks with the San, where visitors gain deep insights into the traditional knowledge of the indigenous people about plants, animals, and survival techniques in the Kalahari. In the evenings, guests can experience traditional San dances and songs. Additionally, marked trails offer opportunities for hiking, jogging, or cycling, and guests can embark on self-guided safaris across the farm. A special highlight is the “Vulture Restaurant”, a feeding and observation station that provides fascinating insights into the world of vultures.
