Mashatu Tent Camp
Rustic safari camp in the wild of the Kalahari Desert
Mashatu Tent Camp is located in eastern Botswana within the 42,000-hectare Mashatu Game Reserve, part of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The remote landscape near the borders with South Africa and Zimbabwe is shaped by the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers and features open plains, riverine woodland and distinctive sandstone ridges. The area is known for its large elephant herds, excellent predator sightings and diverse birdlife. The name Mashatu refers to the Nyala Berry tree, which is characteristic of the region.
Accommodation at Mashatu Tent Camp
Small and close to nature, Mashatu Tent Camp comprises eight private tents accommodating a maximum of 16 guests. The spacious canvas tents are raised on wooden platforms beneath large trees and connected by narrow pathways. Each tent has a private deck overlooking the surrounding bush as well as a private outdoor bathroom with a shower and toilet.
The camp’s communal areas form the centre of daily life. Meals are served in the open-sided, thatched gazebo or in the boma overlooking the illuminated waterhole. A small swimming pool provides a refreshing place to cool off on hot days. Particularly appealing is the shaded hide overlooking the waterhole, offering an unobstructed opportunity to observe wildlife. Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas. Guests can reach the camp either by air via the private Limpopo Valley Airfield within the reserve or by road via Pont Drift. During periods of high water, the Limpopo River can be crossed by cable car at Pont Drift.
Activities and tours at Mashatu Tent Camp
Safari activities include guided game drives and walking safaris. Depending on the stay, additional experiences such as night drives, cultural village visits, cycling, horseback safaris and photographic activities can also be arranged. The daily programme remains flexible and is adapted to wildlife sightings, weather conditions and circumstances within the reserve.
