Luxury lodge on the eastern fringes of the Kalahari Desert
The family-friendly Mashatu Lodge is located in the eastern part of the Mashatu Game Reserve in southeastern Botswana, on the edge of the Kalahari and close to the borders of South Africa and Zimbabwe. The private reserve encompasses a diverse landscape of open savannahs, riverine areas, sandstone formations and ancient trees. The region is home to a large elephant population, while lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs and numerous bird species can also be observed in the area.
Accommodation at Mashatu Lodge
The lodge consists of 14 spacious Luxury Suites, which are spread along the edge of the camp, offering guests a high degree of privacy. Each air-conditioned suite features a sleeping area with a double bed and an additional single bed, a separate lounge area with a daybed, as well as a spacious bathroom with a bathtub, shower and separate toilet. The suites are designed with families in mind and provide ample space for both couples and families travelling with children.
Two large swimming pools offer a relaxing retreat between game drives. At the waterhole, guests can enjoy wildlife viewing while having traditional High Tea. The Discovery Room provides further insights into the region, featuring archaeological artefacts and information about the history and natural environment of the area. Additional facilities include a spa offering a range of treatments and a well-stocked curio shop with locally inspired souvenirs. Dining at Mashatu Lodge focuses on varied African cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients, homemade bread, seasonal fruits, vegetables, meat dishes and desserts. Meals are served in different areas of the lodge, including a traditional open-air boma setting.
Activities and tours at Mashatu Lodge
The stay includes guided game drives and, depending on the length of the visit, guided bush walks. Experienced guides lead guests through the vast reserve and share their knowledge of the wildlife, vegetation and unique ecology of the Mashatu Game Reserve. Transfers between the lodge and Limpopo Valley Airfield, Pont Drift Border Post or the village of Mathathane are also included in the services offered.
