The Lone Tree Wilderness Camp is located in the heart of the Tswehe Wildlife Reserve in the eastern Tuli Block of Botswana. The region’s landscape is defined by towering baobabs, open savannas, riverine forests along the Limpopo, and striking rock formations that provide a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, and giraffes. With its secluded setting and authentic atmosphere, the camp primarily appeals to guests who seek peace, a close connection to nature, and immersive wilderness experiences.
Accommodation at Lone Tree Wilderness Camp
The camp has five tents, each equipped with two single beds, high-quality bedding, a luggage rack, and a private wooden deck with a hammock and chairs. All accommodations feature private bathrooms, each with a washbasin and a shower. In addition, four more bathrooms are available with traditional “donkey boiler” showers, heated in the traditional way using wood.
At the heart of the camp stands an old Nyala berry tree, which gave the camp its name. Around it are the communal areas, including an open-air boma with a fire pit, a lounge with a fireplace, and a swimming pool with a wooden deck. A fully equipped kitchen with refrigerators and freezers is also available, where guests can prepare their own meals or enjoy dishes prepared by the camp’s chef.
As Lone Tree Wilderness Camp is deliberately run “off the grid,” it is not connected to the national power grid. Energy is supplied by solar power and wood-fired boilers, emphasizing the camp’s sustainability and low ecological footprint. Despite its rustic setup, guests do not have to forego comfort, as the camp combines simplicity with style in a thoughtful way.
Activities and Excursions at Lone Tree Wilderness Camp
The camp offers one guided game drive every day. This is complemented by stargazing, yoga and mindfulness activities, and excursions into the surrounding landscapes, such as hikes up Tswehe Hill or along the Limpopo River. Cultural experiences are also part of the program through the camp’s collaboration with local community projects. A special highlight is the underground photographic hide at a waterhole, which allows for exceptional close-up wildlife observations.
