Nxamaseri Island Lodge
Exclusive lodge in the northwestern Okavango Delta
The history of the lodge dates back to the early 1980s, when PJ and Barney Bestelink founded the camp. This makes Nxamaseri one of the oldest lodges in the Okavango region. Since 2021, the lodge has been part of the Desert & Delta Safaris portfolio. Its idyllic setting on a large, shady island surrounded by the permanently flowing Nxamaseri waterways guarantees peace and seclusion. The lodge is a welcome contrast for self-drivers arriving, for example, from the desert regions of Namibia and wishing to explore the Okavango Delta.
Accommodation at Nxamaseri Island Lodge
The lodge consists of nine chalets built on raised wooden platforms and connected to the main area by wooden walkways. Accommodation comprises six double chalets, two triple chalets and one family unit. Set beneath the island’s natural canopy, the individual units feature a private seating area, a terrace overlooking the surroundings and an en-suite bathroom. Additional amenities include a safe, fan and 220-volt power outlets.
The central main building houses the lounge, bar and dining area, with views over the Nxamaseri Channel. Meals are served as a three-course buffet, while private dinners can also be arranged on request. The communal areas also include a fire pit on the main deck, a secluded swimming pool and a small curio shop. The lodge has its own drinking-water purification system, while electricity is supplied around the clock by a generator, battery storage system and inverter. A satellite connection provides limited Wi-Fi access.
Activities and tours at Nxamaseri Island Lodge
The experience at Nxamaseri Island Lodge revolves entirely around the Okavango’s waterways. Motorboat excursions explore the permanently flowing channels and lagoons, while mokoro trips provide access to the shallower waterways and islands. Guided walks, birdwatching and seasonal fishing excursions complement the range of activities. From March to December, fishing trips focus particularly on tigerfish, for which the region is well known. A worthwhile excursion leads to one of Botswana's greatest treasures, the Tsodilo Hills, about an hour from the lodge, where numerous prehistoric rock paintings offer an insight into the cultural history of the region.
