Muchenje Safari Lodge is located in the western part of Chobe National Park, set on an escarpment within the Chobe Forest Reserve. From here, guests enjoy sweeping views over the Chobe River and the floodplains of the Caprivi region. Unlike the often-busy eastern part of the park around Kasane, Muchenje offers peace, exclusivity, and a distinctly personal atmosphere. The privately owned lodge, which first opened its doors in 1996, has always focused on warm hospitality and individual service.
Accommodation at Muchenje Safari Lodge
The lodge features a total of twelve thatched chalets. Eleven of these are standard cottages, while the spacious family chalet, with a double bed on the ground floor and two single beds on a mezzanine level, can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Each chalet is well-appointed with an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda overlooking the floodplains.
At the heart of the lodge lies the open-plan main house with lounge, bar, dining area, and a raised viewing deck offering stunning vistas at any time of day. Additional amenities include a small library, a curio shop, and a swimming pool set into natural rock formations. In the evenings, guests often gather around the fire pit or in the traditional boma, where dinners are served under the starlit African sky. Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas, and the lodge operates with a strong commitment to sustainability through initiatives such as plastic reduction, on-site water filtration, and partnerships with local schools.
Activities and Excursions at Muchenje Safari Lodge
Muchenje offers a wide range of safari experiences. These include game drives in open vehicles—whether in the morning, afternoon, full-day, or even at night—as well as boat cruises along the Chobe River, sometimes combined with a traditional mokoro excursion depending on the season. Guided bush walks provide a more intimate encounter with the flora and fauna of the region, while cultural visits to nearby villages and schools give insight into local life.

Rates & Reservations
A minimum of 2 nights for all bookings will be necessary during high season (July - October) only.
Children 8 years and older are welcome. Children under 8 on request in low season.
