The Dune Camp

Eco Lodge bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve

The Dune Camp by Bush Ways is situated on a vegetated sand dune at the northeastern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve within the 43,000-hectare Deception Valley Private Reserve. Its secluded location in one of Botswana's most pristine wilderness areas offers sweeping views across the Kalahari's characteristic valleys, natural pans, and acacia-dotted bushveld. Waterholes and carefully positioned wildlife hides provide excellent opportunities to observe animals in their natural habitat while minimizing disturbance.

Accommodation at The Dune Camp

Blending harmoniously into its surroundings, the intimate camp features just eight freestanding chalets, creating an exclusive and peaceful safari atmosphere. Accommodation consists of four standard chalets and four spacious family chalets with interleading doors. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda overlooking the Kalahari landscape and a nearby waterhole that regularly attracts wildlife.

The heart of the camp is the open-plan main lodge, which includes a dining area, a bar, and a comfortable viewing lounge overlooking the surrounding wilderness and waterhole. A swimming pool provides a welcome retreat during the warmer hours of the day. The lodge's open design allows guests to remain immersed in the unique atmosphere of the Kalahari throughout their stay.

Activities and tours at The Dune Camp

Morning, afternoon, and night game drives explore the private reserve, offering opportunities to encounter Kalahari black-maned lions, cheetahs, brown hyenas, a variety of antelope species, and, with a little luck, elusive animals such as pangolins. Experienced guides share their extensive knowledge of wildlife behaviour and the ecological diversity of this remarkable landscape.

Equally memorable are the guided San walks and nature excursions led by members of the Naru-speaking San community. These experiences introduce guests to traditional tracking techniques, the use of indigenous medicinal plants, and the generations of knowledge that have enabled the San to thrive in the Kalahari for centuries.
