Great Tsau Hill

Tented camp at the magical Great Tsau Hill in the Kalahari

The semi-mobile eco-camp is situated in a 400 km² private concession on the northwestern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). It lies at the foot of the striking Great Tsau Hill, a rocky ridge rising approximately 200 metres above the surrounding plains and stretching for more than a kilometre across the seemingly endless Kalahari landscape. Owing to its remote location, Great Tsau Hill is an exceptional destination for spectacular sunrises and sunsets, breathtaking night skies, and uninterrupted wildlife viewing in the game-rich African savannah.

Accommodation at Great Tsau Hill

The camp offers ten rustic Meru-style tents that combine comfort with an authentic safari atmosphere. Each tent features a comfortable bed with a mosquito net, a private veranda, and a simple en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower. Wi-Fi is intentionally unavailable, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the surrounding wilderness, while solar power provides electricity for charging electronic devices.

The central guest area forms the social heart of the camp and includes an open lounge, a dining area, and a traditional boma where meals are often enjoyed around the campfire. Perched high on the rocky outcrop is a small swimming pool offering sweeping views across the Kalahari and the surrounding wilderness, providing a peaceful place to relax and take in the scenery.

Activities and tours at Great Tsau Hill

One of the camp's defining features is its close partnership with the San people, whose ancestors have lived in the Kalahari for thousands of years. Guests gain authentic insights into their traditional way of life through guided cultural experiences, learning about ancient tracking skills, foraging techniques, medicinal plants, and survival strategies in one of Africa's oldest landscapes.

Additional activities include day and night game drives, guided bush walks, e-bike safaris, and hikes to the summit of Great Tsau Hill. From the viewpoint, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views across the vast Kalahari wilderness. After sunset, the camp becomes one of the region's finest stargazing locations, thanks to the crystal-clear desert air and the complete absence of artificial light.
